Shawls seem to be the perfect project for so many reasons: a mini palette for a new or favourite technique, the perfect showcase some gorgeous yarn, no need to worry about fit, relatively economical to make, and easy to wear.

Book Two shawls are a little bigger, a little more solid so a little warmer than Book One shawls. Never fear, we have made them still with the same sense of proportion, beautiful drape and ease of wear you would expect from us. With two skeins to play with on each shawl we explore colour and texture, with more techniques and shapes.

In this book we share our love of shawls and show you the secrets of shaping them, tips for incorporating stitch patterns and a beautiful pattern demonstrating each shape. All the examples use two 100g skeins of 4ply yarn, making these patterns the perfect stash buster or excuse to buy a special skein or two. Raid your stash and get pairing!

Whether you’d like to learn to design your own crochet shawls or just understand a little more about what makes them so special, this is the book for you.

Patterns are written using UK crochet terminology with US conversions given in the abbreviations section. Patterns are charted where appropriate. Schematics are provided throughout.

Bigger and better!

I was lucky enough to be a pattern tester for one of the patterns in this book. Whilst these shawls are bigger, more complex and more time consuming than the patterns in book one, the sense of achievement when you have a finished item is just amazing. As I said in my review of book 1 I am definitely a process crafter - its the crafting I enjoy - so tend not to make a pattern more than once. That said, the missed kingfisher shawl in this book is probably my favourite pattern ever. The resulting fabric has so much drape and it is such a lovely squishy shawl.
Although the patterns are more complicated, the instructions are clear and easy to follow and once you get started you suddenly find you're in the swing of it and it is straightforward. I definitely recommend if you have some special skeins of yarn you have been saving. Once again, a brilliant book of great patterns.

I learned new techniques

This was my second purchase from the Crochetproject. I feel helplessly in love with Missed Kingfisher and Pinetum. I did not think that I had the skills to make those two patterns. But even with my lack of confidence the patterns were so well written that I had no problems at all.
